II. Scope/Objective

Together Towards Sustainable Development (T2SD) is a UNDP Lebanon strategic policy initiative bringing together businesses that are committed to aligning their efforts with seven standards in five policy areas: social development and disaster risk reduction, inclusiveness, environment, innovation/entrepreneurship and social accountability and transparency. By doing so, businesses will help ensure that markets, commerce, technology and finance advance in ways that lead to sustainable development in Lebanon, with an improved business environment. This in turn will ensure growth by establishing greater confidence in markets for investors, and good flow in capital. T2SD will also play the role of catalyst in moving the sustainable development agenda forward, based on the Rio+20 recommendations, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Under the direct supervision of the Private Sector Focal Point, and overall guidance of the Assistant Resident Representative, the Project Assistant, will be mainly responsible for supporting in developing and implementing the activities of the T2SD Country Office project, in line with the Private Sector strategy.

III. Functions / Key Results Expected

- Provide support in all logistical and administrative aspect of the T2SD and private sector initiatives  
- Map and assess private sector activities of the country office, consolidate information, show case success stories 
- Support in developing and implementing business processes for CO private sector work
- Assist in identifying and following-up on resource mobilization opportunities, as well as partnership development potential
- Liaise with current and potential partners and stakeholders
- Provide support in implementing concrete activities based on the CO private sector strategy, from the stages of project creation to closure and follow-up 
- Support in the development and consolidation of an annual work plan for T2SD and the CO private sector activities 
- Develop and disseminate knowledge on private sector related issues, incl. research and analysis, newsletters, promotional material, and training material 
- Provide support to and liaise with the T2SD members, to push the development agenda forward 
- Provide additional support as requested by the T2SD/Private Sector team, within the scope of the terms of reference

V. Competencies

- Good knowledge of private sector development, market opportunities, economics and current development issues particularly those pertinent to the project 
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to produce accurate and well documented research conforming to the required international standards
- Tested multitasking skills and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to interact with a dynamic team 
- Fluency in word processing, spreadsheets, and internet technology
- Excellent writing skills

VI. Recruitment Qualifications

Education: 
A University Degree in Economics or Economic Development, Business Administration, Political Science, Public Administration or related fields.

Experience: 
A minimum of 3 years of experience. Experience with a UN agency is preferable.

Language Requirements: 
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
