The Lebanese University - Pierre Gemayel University Compound - Fanar hosted the annual conference of the Lebanese Society for Mathematical Sciences (LSMS) on 14 and 15 June 2019.

The conference was inaugurated by the President of LSMS, Dr.  Rachel Hobeika Kallas, who thanked the Lebanese University for hosting the conference for the fourth time, and the Doctoral School of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Science, and acknowledged the support of the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the Center for Advanced Mathematical Sciences (CAMS) of the American University of Beirut (AUB) for the association activities, including this conference.

Dr. Kallas invited non-member professors to join the association which has been working since its inception to support mathematical sciences in Lebanon and to strengthen relations between mathematics teachers in Lebanon and their colleagues abroad.

The Director of the Lebanese University - Faculty of Sciences (Branch 2), Professor Youssef Zaatar, representing the Faculty Dean, Professor Bassam Badran, and the Doctoral School Dean, Professor Fawaz Al-Omar, delivered a welcome speech and thanked the LSMS for choosing the Lebanese University to hold its annual conference.

Professor Zaatar stressed the importance of mathematics and its applications to most sciences, as well as the importance of this conference, which paves the way for cooperation and experience exchange, and represents a need to popularize, revitalize and develop mathematical sciences in Lebanon.

It should be noted that about 22 speakers participated in the conference and presented their latest research in the field of mathematics, including visiting professors from Great Britain, the United States, and France, with a large participation of students.
