Within the framework of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) centennial, the Lebanese University - Faculty of Sciences (Branch 5) - Bint Jbeil Section, in cooperation with the Astronomy Team of the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS), organized an astronomy evening on 11 July 2019 in the Moussa Abbas Compound - Bint Jbeil, in the presence of a large number of professors, students and interested persons from the Lebanese University.
The evening, which was coordinated and supported by the Municipality of Bint Jbeil, was moderated by Dr. Muhammad Abbas, member of the Astronomy Team of the CNRS, Dr. Ahmad Chaalan, coordinator of the Astronomical Team, and Professor Bachir Jarrah, member of the Arab Astronomical Union.
During the evening, participants were able to observe the moon and its topography, Jupiter and its four largest moons, Saturn and its distinctive rings, through five telescopes operated by Professor Ali Jawhar, founder of the Lebanese Astronomers' Team, Dr. Hussein Fahes, Dr. Ahmad Chaalan and Professor Jarrah. In addition, they were able to watch astronomical performances inside the cosmic dome.
