21/2/2020 - The Lebanese University won a number of awards at the "Tyre International Short Film Festival"

"Chou Esmak" (What’s your name), “Al Najma” (The Star) and “Une Photo, un Hotel et Elle” (A Photo, A Hotel & Her) are the three short films prepared and produced by graduates of the Lebanese University - Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture (Branch 2) for a master’s degree in cinematography. The films won a number of awards at the 7th edition of the "Tyre International Short Film Festival" held between 15-17 February 2020.

In an artistic cultural event organized by the management of "Istanbuli Theater" and "Tyro Society for Arts" under the slogan "Cinema Facing Oppression", more than fifty feature and documentary films from nineteen countries competed, and the Lebanese University gained a notable share of the prizes, which came as follows:

·         Best Lebanese Film: “What’s Your Name” for Nour Al-Moujabber, which tells the story of a young director who discovers his mother's Alzheimer's disease, and decides to film her daily suffering and home treatment to slow the incurable disease.

·         Best Actor, granted to the Lebanese actor, Rodrigue Sleiman for his role in “Une Photo, un Hotel et Elle” (A Photo, A Hotel & Her) for Estéphan Khattar, which tells the story of a married couple who decide to celebrate their wedding anniversary in a hotel, where the husband meets his ex-girlfriend, after which the event begins.

·         The jury also praised “Al Najma” (The Star) for Gilbert Karam, which is being presented for the first time in Lebanon, as a "salute" for the great artists of Lebanon, starring actress Aida Sabra. The film embodies the life of an artist from her first appearance on the stage of "Piccadilly Theater" until she returned to her normal life, documented through "real and long shots" of the situations and moments in which she lived.

It is noteworthy that the "Tyre International Short Film Festival" support local cinema and students' films through cultural exchanges, training workshops, seminars and discussions with the directors after presenting their films.
