The Minister of Public Health in the caretaker government, Dr. Hamad Hassan, visited the Microbiology, Health and Environment Laboratory (LMSE) of the Doctoral School of Science & Technology and the Faculty of Public Health at the Lebanese University on 27 August 2020.
Minister Hassan met with the Dean of the Doctoral School, Professor Fawaz Al-Omar, the Head of the Laboratory, Prof. Monzir Hamzah, the researchers, Dr. Bashar Ismail, Dr. Rayan Rafihi, and the Chief Technician, Taha Abdo. Minister Hassan was briefed about the protocols related to COVID-19 exam analysis, praising the high level of the scientific and technical staff working according to the highest international quality standards and accurate scientific methods.
In addition, the Minister stressed that the purpose of his visit was to praise the efforts made by DSST in the fight against Covid-19 in terms of research and analysis for people arriving from Syria or Zgharta, Miniyeh, Danniyeh and Tripoli.
Professor Hamzah welcomed Minister Hassan and his accompanying delegation and confirmed the importance of developing the partnership and cooperation relationship between the Lebanese University and the Ministry of Public Health.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Public Health included LMSE in its list of officially approved laboratories for conducting COVID-19 tests, after evaluating the technical capabilities available and the level of public safety.
