I.  Position Information

Job Title: Research Assistant

II. Scope/Objective

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered with the Office of the Minister of Women Affairs (OMSWA) to provide technical support to the latter and the Lebanese government in addressing priorities pertaining to women affairs. As such, the following two specific objectives will be focused on:

Output 1: A consolidated all-inclusive action plan for the OMSWA to mainstream gender equality at the national level developed; and
Output 2: Support to the OMSWA to coordinate and implement quick-win projects provided. 

Under the guidance and supervision of the National Focal Point, the Research Assistant provides the Office of the Minister of State for Women’s Affairs (OMSWA), support in the production of reports and research activities related to introducing the gender component in the public and private spheres. 

III. Functions / Key Results Expected

1. Collect, compile, and process information.

2. Assist in designing and editing studies as needed.

3. Provide assistance in preparing background documents, progress reports, and final reports.

4. Prepare relevant summaries, fact sheets, and presentations.

5. Assist in disseminating publications and reports.

6. Establish and maintain an information database as needed.

7. Provide assistance in organizing conferences and workshops.

8. Attend meetings, record minutes, and ensure follow up.

9. Provide support to international experts, consultants, and partners.

10. Assist in compiling information towards the development of concept notes and project proposals related to the “gender” component in various fields.

 


IV. Competencies

- Strong knowledge of women and gender affairs in Lebanon
- Knowledge of the Lebanese socio-economic, cultural, and political realities
- Thorough understanding of project-related content
- Excellent research and report-writing skills with focus on details
- Proven inter-personal written and oral communication skills
- Tested multitasking skills
- Ability to work with teams and multiple stakeholders
- Fluency in word processing, spreadsheets, and internet technology

 

V. Recruitment Qualifications

Education: 
University Degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in Political Studies, Public Administration, Gender Studies, Social Sciences or related fields.

Experience: 
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (with a University Degree).
Experience with the Lebanese Administration and/or Development Agencies (including UN agencies) is preferable.

Language Requirements: 
Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English. French is an asset.
