CAREMED Local Thematic Committee – 2nd Meeting (Lebanon)
Held on 17 August 2026 via Microsoft Teams
The CAREMED Local Thematic Committee (LTC) held its second meeting, chaired by Dr. Elie Hadchity (Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Lebanese University), with participation from national health stakeholders and professional orders.
Key points:
- CAREMED aims to strengthen resilience of the Lebanese health system by shifting from hospital‑centred services to prevention, early detection, and community‑based management of NCDs (diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, COPD).
- Nine Primary Health Care centers in addition to the Lebanese University Medical Center will be involved, with multidisciplinary training for healthcare professionals.
- Upcoming September activities at the Lebanese University Medical Center include information session, awareness campaigns, and screening day.
- Stakeholders emphasized adapting international care models to the Lebanese context, clarifying professional roles (social workers, midwives, nurses, laboratory staff), and aligning with national guidelines and health information systems.
- Bilateral consultations and technical meetings will complement monthly LTC sessions to refine roles, training needs, and community‑based care approaches.
The meeting confirmed strong stakeholder commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, alignment with national systems, and practical adaptation of CAREMED models to Lebanon.
