The Lebanese University, represented by its President, Professor Fouad Ayoub, signed a cooperation agreement with the General Directorate of General Security represented by its General Director, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, in the presence of a delegation of General Security agents, Professor Kamil Habib, Professor Ahmad Rabah, Dr. Zeinab Saad, Dr. Ziad Salame, members of the CISCO program and heads of departments at the Central Administration.
President Ayoub welcomed the agreement signing that aims at exchanging experiences and scientific and technical information, for developing joint studies and research, and exchanging different qualification programs. The agreement also aims at using the existing laboratories and research centers of both parties to conduct joint research in order to seek complementarity between public institutions and to prepare specialized scientists working in the service of the country in order to ensure security and scientific development.
President Ayoub indicated that the Lebanese University is keen on making this cooperation fruitful, including with the establishment of conferences, workshops and training for officers and personnel of the General Security, with the aim to improve their scientific and technical capacities according to the modern academic programs available at the university, and to open up to global development in the field of higher education through existing cooperation agreements with foreign, local or international universities and research institutes.
Besides, President Ayoub stressed that national development requires continuous and joint work between public sector institutions, referring to the pioneering role of the Lebanese University and the General Security in the preservation of the country, as well as in the scientific and security protection and fortification.
At the end of his speech, President Ayoub wished to broaden the horizons of this cooperation, embodying the common goals that unite the two institutions.
For his part, Major General Abbas Ibrahim stressed the importance the agreement as it provides training courses in the fields of computer and communication sciences for the institutions of the CISCO program, hoping that it will be extended for a long time so that future students can benefit from its content in a professional, technical and thoughtful manner, which is positive for developing the General Security work in the areas of training and enhancing human skills.
Major General Ibrahim announced that the agreement includes several training measures:
· Activating the exchange of experiences and scientific and technical information;
· Establishing technical studies and exchanging various qualification programs;
· Benefiting from laboratories and research centers to carry out joint studies, provided that the Lebanese University agrees to accept requests of the General Security to enroll in its specializations, and to establish complementary specializations of mutual interest according to the needs and requirements.
At the end of his speech, Major General Ibrahim thanked President Ayoub, the university’s staff, the members of the CISCO Program, and the members of the joint committee who played the main role in highlighting this agreement, in the hope of achieving the improvement of the technical capabilities of the Directorate.
In conclusion, President Ayoub and Major General Ibrahim exchanged honorary shields.
