Dr. Jean-Claude Assaf, Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering won the DairyTech Live Demo Award at the Food and Agricultural Innovation Day (AFID2022) organized by “Berytech” funded by the European Union on 22 March 2022.
Dr. Assaf received the award after displaying a machine related to the removal of carcinogenic innate toxins such as aflatoxin from milk, which was developed in joint cooperation between a team from the Lebanese University that included Dr. Assaf, Professor Ali Shokr, Professor Ali Atwi, and a team from the Faculty of Science at Saint Joseph University of Beirut that included Professor Nicolas Luke and Dr. Andre El Khoury.
The innovative method allows for the disposal of these husks by making use of them to purify the milk and not waste large quantities in the event that it does not meet the quality specifications. The new technology also opens new horizons in industrial applications that will help eliminate mycotoxins harmful to human health and present in many liquid foods.
