Centre MINE: Mental Health Online Seminar, Preparing Ourselves and Our Students to Engage the Fall Semester during This Challenging Crisis Situation

Since October 2019, Lebanon has experienced tough times starting with the economic crisis, to Covid-19, and lastly to the devastating Beirut Blast. All these stressful events generated a mental health crisis, which has naturally also affected educators and students.

 

Recognizing this fact,

 

The faculty/staff of the Lebanese University are invited to join Centre MINE seminar organized by HECD, “Mental Health Online Seminar: Preparing Ourselves and Our Students to Engage the Fall Semester during This Challenging Crisis Situation” which is scheduled on Thursday 24th September 2020 at 3:00 pm Beirut time.

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Heidi Kar

International Mental Health Expert

Education Development Center, Inc.

Dr. Heidi Kar, an international mental health expert and licensed clinical psychologist, leads EDC’s violence and trauma team. She brings expertise in designing, training, and evaluating evidence-based interventions focused on the prevention and/or treatment of trauma disorders, violent behavior, substance use disorders, and suicide.

Dr. Kar develops resiliency-based interventions to address the mental health and coping needs of underserved and vulnerable communities around the world. Previously, she has worked with the IRC, Johns Hopkins University, and the VHA. Her work serves domestic violence survivors and perpetrators, vulnerable children and youth, American Indian and Alaskan Native communities, law enforcement officers, veterans, and other at-risk populations.

Frequently, Dr. Kar is called upon to advise and guide the strategic design of community-, school-, and health systems-based programs and systems. She is an invited member of the World Health Organization’s Violence Prevention Alliance and the Forum on Global Violence Prevention of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Dr. Kar holds a PhD in clinical psychology and an MHS in international health from the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health.
