The Lebanese University receives a donation from the Chinese Embassy

The Chinese Embassy in Lebanon, represented by Ambassador Chen Chuandong, presented the Lebanese University, represented by its President Bassam Badran, with a donation consisting of a batch of computers.

On behalf of the embassy, the donation was presented by Mr. Pan Pai, Cultural Attaché at the embassy; Mr. Wu Shutao, First Secretary; and Mr. He Xiaoheng, Director of the Ambassador’s Office. Representing the Lebanese University were Mrs. Véronique Kaspard, coordinator of the International Relations Office, as well as a number of deans from various faculties and institutes and the President's advisor, Dr. Ali Rammal.

President Badran began his speech by welcoming the Chinese ambassador and his delegation, highlighting the cooperation that has developed over the years between the Faculty of Letters & Human Sciences and Chinese universities.

He stated: “It is an honor for the Lebanese University to welcome today the Ambassador of China, Chen Chuandong, on a visit that reflects the depth of cultural and scientific relations between our two countries. This visit highlights the role of universities as platform for cultural exchange and means of communication between people.

President Badran then addressed the Chinese ambassador, saying: “Your presence today at the Lebanese University reinforces our strong belief that knowledge is a universal language, and that investing in education and scientific research is key to building a brighter future. We truly appreciate your symbolic gesture of donating computer equipment. We consider it a sign of mutual trust that academic cooperation offers new opportunities for our students and professors to interact with global experiences. And we seek to strengthen these experiences with dozens of universities around the world, including Chinese universities known for their scientific and technological expertise.”

President Badran emphasized that the Lebanese University, which is celebrating its diamond jubilee, remains faithful to its mission of educating people, while remaining open to the world, and pursuing excellence.

He concluded: “On behalf of the Lebanese University, I extend my sincere thanks to His Excellency the Ambassador for his generous initiative, and may this gathering serve as an occasion to strengthen the bonds of cooperation and collaboration”.

The Chinese ambassador recalled the long-standing relationship between Lebanon and China, which has spanned more than fifty years, and expressed his pride in the resilience demonstrated by the Lebanese University under these difficult circumstances.

The Chinese ambassador highlighted the long-standing cooperation between the Lebanese University and China, not only in the teaching of the Chinese language but also in various areas of exchange, and affirmed that he would do his utmost to bring Chinese professors to the university to continue teaching the Chinese language.

He stated: "This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lebanon and China, and our embassy plans to organize cultural events and looks forward to the Lebanese University’s participation".

The Chinese ambassador spoke of Beijing’s support for Lebanon during the current period, emphasizing that China supports Lebanon’s sovereignty and security and stands in solidarity against it.
