The Lebanese University takes part in HERACLES project
The Lebanese University takes part in HERACLES project launched on February 2026 in Bari, Italy. HERACLES program is among the projects recently approved in Lebanon and has been officially launched as part of Interreg NEXT MED Program with a project duration running from October 31, 2025, to October 30, 2028.
HERACLES is coordinated by the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” and is co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT MED Program 2021–2027.
The Lebanese University participates in HERACLES project (Healthcare Enterprises and Research Alliance for Collaboration, Learning, and Exploitation of AI-driven business Solutions), among seven other partners from 5 different countries (Italy, Greece, Spain, Tunisia and Lebanon) thereby strengthening its capacity to support sustainable and resilient health initiatives in the Mediterranean region.
The project partnership includes Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro, Lebanese University, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, University of Ioannina, University of Huelva, Business Incubation Association in Tripoli – BIAT, and Centre of Biotechnology of Sfax.
HERACLES aims to establish a research network between companies and universities in the Mediterranean region, focusing on applying AI for predictive medicine and health crisis preparedness addressing significant common challenges in the Mediterranean region and transforming healthcare, making it more efficient.
The project promotes Open Innovation and Open Research paradigms exploring AI’s potential alongside legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure proper valorization of research through intellectual property and technology transfer mechanisms.
The Lebanese University participated in the kickoff meeting focused on essential aspects of project implementation including financial rules, reporting, procurement procedures and communication obligations and key to aligning project activities with Interreg NEXT MED quality standards and EU requirements.
The Lebanese University’s participation in this project reflects its active engagement in Euro-Mediterranean transnational cooperation and its commitment to advancing innovation, sustainability, and inclusive development across the region.
