In cooperation with the Lebanese University - Faculty of Public Health and under the auspices of the General Foundation, the Social Health Center of Mayrouba launched a mammography service.
The launch of the service was carried out in partnership with Ashqout Development Services Center, Kfardebian Relief Center, Hrajel Primary Health Care Center, and Raashine Municipal Clinic. The event was attended by Dean Nina Saadallah Zeidan, Mrs. Mona Dahdah, MP Chamel Roukoz, Mr. Henry Massad, as well as several mayors and priests.
In her speech, Dean Zeidan stressed that health is a right for all and must be among the national priorities to preserve the spirit of partnership and solidarity.
Dr. Christiane Saliba, Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Public Health - Education and Health Promotion at the Lebanese University, indicated that the service launching is a vital right to health and a result of an academic study that shows how the flagrant disparity in peoples’ health status, both between developed and developing countries, is politically, socially and economically unacceptable.
Besides, Dr. Saliba stressed that the principle of "health for all" has not been achieved, deploring the fact that the disease burden is the responsibility of the citizen and the private sector, while state intervention is not sufficient.
MP Chamel Roukoz stressed that the revival of clinics in remote areas, especially in winter, is a necessity to compensate for the lack of hospitals and health centers, stressing the importance of combining need and science, especially from the Lebanese University, an academic institution of excellence.
At the end, Myriam Abi Abdullah, Master student at the Department of Public Health, detailed the project implementation stages.
