A number of alumni and students of the Lebanese University - Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture won various awards at the 2nd edition of the "Lebanese National Theatre Festival", during a ceremony hosted by Al Madina Theater on 8 February 2020.
The festival organized by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the "Arab Theater Authority", witnessed the competition between 6 local theatrical performances that reached the finals out of 15, and the prizes were distributed as follows:
· Best Actor Award - Actor in a Leading Role, given to Fouad Yammine (Graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture) for his role in the play “Chatir Fouad!”
· Best Actor Award - Best Supporting Actor, given to Amer Fayyad (3rd year - Theater in the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture, Branch 2) for his role in the play "Ma Sha’a - Will"
· Best Actress Award – Actress in a Leading Role, given to Anjo Rihane (Graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture) for her role in “Mujadara Hamra"
· Best Actress Award – Best Supporting Actress, given to Perla Hanna (3rd year - Theater in the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture, Branch 2) for her role in "Ma Sha’a - Will"
· Best Scenography Award given to director Lena Osseyran (Graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture) for the play “Al Mouallakatan” (Two Suspended Women)
· Best Theatrical Text Award given to writer Hasan Makhzoum (graduate of the Faculty of Law, Political & Administrative Sciences) for the play “Al Mouallakatan” (Two Suspended Women)
· Best Music Composition & Sound Effects Award given to Ali Sabbah (3rd year - Theater in the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture, Branch 1) for the play “Al Mouallakatan” (Two Suspended Women)
· Best Director Award given to "Collectif Kahraba" for the play “Asel Al Hikaya” (Origins of a Tale) written and directed by Aurélien Zouki and Eric Deniaud
· Best Lebanese Theater Work Award given to "Collectif Kahraba" for the play “Asel Al Hikaya” (Origins of a Tale) written and directed by Aurélien Zouki and Eric Deniaud
The director and actor Gabriel Yammine (professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture) and actresses Yara Zakhour and Sara Abdo (graduates of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture) also received a distinction for their role in the play “Al Mouallakatan” (Two Suspended Women).
The current edition of the festival was chaired by actor Nicolas Daniel, while the jury consisted of director and actor Boutros Rouhana (Chair), with the membership of the poet and journalist Zahi Wehbe, director Lina Khoury, director Naji Sourati and actress Nada Abou Farhat.
The attendees praised the quality, professionalism, and diversity that characterized the competing plays.
