12/2/2020 - Dr. Nadine Adra, graduate of the Lebanese University, pioneering in environment, energy, technology and art

    

 

The distinguished career of Dr. Nadine Adra, graduate of the Lebanese University, was pursued between Tripoli - North Lebanon and Paris.

 

The journey of excellence of the young engineer began by winning the “Mary Haskell” award in 1990 on the topic of “The role of women in the writings of Salma al-Haffar Kuzbari”. In 1996, she obtained a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Lebanese University - Faculty of Engineering (Branch 1) and a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Literature from the Faculty of Letters & Human Sciences (Branch 3), and completed her PhD in the Sustainable Energy at the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon (INSA Lyon). She then joined the Higher School of Economic and Commercial Sciences (ESSEC Business School) and the Emlyon Business School, France and obtained a certificate in Executive Business Administration.

 

Dr. Adra occupied several key positions in French and international companies such as Total S.A., Électricité de France S.A. (EDF) and the European Union, in addition to managing major projects in renewable energy and energy saving. She is the founder of the first French companies involved in green buildings, and the Regional President of the Energy Environment Technical Association (ATEE) involved in strengthening energy management in the industrial, construction and environmental protection sectors. In 2015, she was appointed as consultant to the Ministry of Foreign Trade in France pursuant to a decree of the Prime Minister.

 

Dr. Adra was granted French citizenship, in recognition of her success in developing research on energy, climate issues and green buildings. She received also the European Union Prize for Sustainable Energy in 2009, was named the French Businesswomen in 2014 and received her French Knight of the Order of Honor in 2017.

 

She contributed to the launch of the "training platform" project on the use of solar energy technologies at the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) in Lebanon in 2014 and developed the first study of the power generation project through the roof of the Beirut River.

 

Dr. Adra recalled her experience at the Lebanese University saying: "This University graduates a large number of specialists who work and excel in Lebanon and abroad. Therefore, this University deserves to be acknowledged and its facilities deserve to be equipped with all requirements for development. I gained a lot from the Faculty of Engineering (Branch 1) and reached the universities in France equipped with a high level of knowledge. In addition, I acquired the ability to write poetry from the Faculty of Letters & Human Sciences, enabling me to publish a number of books.”

 

“Despite the distance, Lebanon remains in my heart and mind, especially when I believe in my ability to use the expertise I gained internationally, to develop my country, create new job opportunities for the youth, and give the Lebanese women a comprehensive role in all fields”, she added.

 

Dr. Adra provides lectures occasionally in France and Lebanon, believing in the need to exchange expertise and transfer new knowledge to students, and it is noteworthy that she is pursuing her studies in psychotherapy.
