New academic distinction for the Faculty of Public Health
Dr. Rayane Mahmoud Rafei, from the Faculty of Public Health—Branch 3, received the “Best Report Award” in the scientific competition organized for participants in a specialized training course on cholera in the Kingdom of Morocco.
Organized by the Wellcome Sanger Institute (United Kingdom) and featuring more than 20 researchers and specialists from various Arab countries, the specialized international training course “VibrioWatch and Cholera Genomics Course” was held at the National Institute of Hygiene in Rabat. The course focused on the latest applications in cholera surveillance, genetic sequencing data analysis, and public health decision support.
During the course, Dr. Rafei received the award for best report for a study that classified cholera strains—based on DNA data—into high-risk and low-risk strains for public health, with the aim of supporting decision-makers in taking appropriate measures to combat the disease and limit its spread.
Dr. Rafei is a researcher at the Microbiology, Health and Environment Laboratory (LMSE), affiliated with the Doctoral School of Science & Technology and the Faculty of Public Health.
